Dr. Alex Garibay is a dedicated optometrist who has been proudly serving the Polk County community since 2017. Originally from Tampa, Florida, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) before going on to complete his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. During his time in school, he took a particular interest in specialty contact lenses and was actively involved in private practice clubs, where his passion for independent optometry was born.
With advanced training and clinical experience—including an externship at the Gainesville VA focused on diagnosing and treating ocular disease—Dr. Garibay brings a well-rounded, patient-centered approach to eye care. He’s especially passionate about helping patients with complex vision needs, including those with keratoconus, post-surgical corneas, or other conditions that require specialty contact lenses. Being able to help someone regain clear, comfortable vision when they thought they were out of options is one of the most rewarding parts of his work.
Dr. Garibay is also a strong advocate for Myopia Management, using the latest tools and treatments to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children. He believes that early intervention can set kids up for a lifetime of better vision and more opportunities, and he enjoys working with both kids and parents to find the right solutions for long-term success.
Beyond medical eye care, Dr. Garibay has a genuine love for the optical side of the practice. He enjoys partnering with independent frame lines to bring in high-quality, thoughtfully designed eyewear that stands out from what you find in big-box stores. He also has a passion for frame styling—helping patients find the right shapes, colors, and looks that fit their face and lifestyle. Whether it’s a bold frame for a night out, something sleek for the office, or prescription sunglasses to help spot that perfect cast on the water, he believes eyewear should help you see clearly and feel like your best self.
Known for his warm, down-to-earth manner, Dr. Garibay treats every patient like family. He’s a proud member of the American Optometric Association, the Florida Optometric Association, and the Lakes Region Optometric Association, and he continues to stay active in professional education to provide the best care possible.
Outside of the office, you’ll likely find him watching a Gators game, out on a bike ride, or spending time with his wife and two daughters. As an avid cyclist, he enjoys the challenge and freedom that comes with being on the road. As a father, husband, and small business owner, Dr. Garibay understands how important it is to feel seen, heard, and cared for—and that’s exactly the experience he aims to deliver to every patient who walks through the doors of Swan City Eye Care.
